Many years ago the businessmen of Robertsdale decided that we needed a large place to meet for the many activities being held from time to time. Luck would have it that they heard of this old building in Mobile, Alabama, which was being torn down. It was good lumber and in good shape considering it was large. The men in the community donated their time and trucks to haul it to Robertsdale, piece by piece. A deal was made with the Robertsdale City Council to erect the building on the land where it stands now. Men worked and donated their time to putting the structure together. When completed it was large enough to have a County Fair, which we did yearly since when it was erected. Also, there was an apartment built inside, which they rented out for some income.
The building was named the Baldwin County Coliseum. During the many years people have enjoyed having a Countywide Fair and having many, many meetings in the building.
My husband, J.W. Clark was president of the Cattle & Fair Association until his business made it necessary for him to resign. He was always interested in all that went on with the Fair.
To raise money, I took our personal car and sold advertisements countywide to all who would buy them, with no charges for gas or time.
Thanks to the many people who have helped to keep up our coliseum and to make it a place for the whole of Baldwin County for many years.
